Moon Sand

Photobucket
Moon Sand has got to be one of the coolest new toys out there.
I had never even heard of the stuff until my Nephew- who we will call Monkey Boy because it amuses me- asked for some for Christmas (well, he asked for a lot of things. I actually believe he thinks my name is Auntie Iwant)

Moon Sand is kinda like Playdough except it never gets hard and it looks and feels like play sand. You can mold it using pretty much anything (and they have about 9 bizillion mold sets out. We went old school and used stuff from around the house). In a day and age where there is a video game or web site to do anything you could possibly want or imagine it was a really simple and basic toy, I think that's what I liked about it. It was just fun and all you had to do was open the package and go.

And to Monkey Boy's delight Auntie Iwant has now decided we need more sand...

Oh Please Don't Let This Show Up As A Theme Ingredient On Iron Chef

Photobucket
Yes, my friends that is a real book. And no the author is not joking.
I read about Natural Harvest on Slashfood (read they're post HERE) and honestly I thought it was supposed to be tongue in check. However, the author has his own blog (HERE)and seems pretty serious about it.

I guess my question is, just how bored do you have to be to even come up with this idea?
I have never been making a batch of cookies and thought to myself "gee, these could really use some seman!"

Believe me I get the whole "waste not, want not" philosphy. I am just not sure it applies in this case.

It's Black Friday!

Photobucket
So did you go out and hit the stores at some ungodly hour of the morning?
Personally, all I hit was my snooze alarm.
Maybe it is too many years on the other side of the register, maybe it is my intense dislike of crowds, or maybe it is just because I am broke but, I myself stayed home.

What I am wondering is if you did go out in to the sales what was it like this year?
Did you see or hear anything crazy?

And most importantly what did you buy for me?

A Reason To Floss!

Photobucket
If that isn't the single cutest floss holder EVER there is something wrong with you!
With the holidays coming up I thought I would start to feature cute products I find around the web. This being the first.

I have to wonder if this could also be re purposed for the crafters in your life? I am thinking these may be usable for embroidery floss or fine beading threads.

Check out the product page HERE

Read This If You Are Flying For The Holidays

Photobucket
With the holidays here I have cemented my New Years travel plans to NYC
As I have family there I make this trip yearly (and I love it!) this year I am making that trip totally across country from L.A. I knew when I made the reservations that there is now an industry wide fee of $25 per second checked bag. What I didn't find out until AFTER I bought my tickets is that there is now also a standard fee of is $15.00 for the FIRST checked bag!- now granted I place the blame for my finding out that late completely on myself. I just never expected that corners had been cut that much.

I can live without the bad food, I don't care about in-flight movies. I can even deal with the minimal amount of leg room (granted, I am under 5 feet so it is not like I need a lot of it) but it takes nerve on the part of the airlines to no longer include at least 1 piece of luggage in the ticket price. Yes, for the moment 1 carry-on bag is still included but you know that means that more people are just going to try to get huge bags into the overhead compartment or under the seats.
I understand times are tough, travel is down, gas prices are up but it seems to me that nickel and dimming those that still travel for every little thing is just adding to the overall dissatisfaction.

Honestly, I did get a pretty darn good deal on my tickets- and even with the added fee's I am probably still coming out a head but I have a feeling that my case in this situation is the exception rather then the rule.

What do you guys think? are you willing to pay less for a ticket if the differance is made up everywhere else? Do you think the fee for the first checked bag is fair?

Is Christain Bale A Poor Man's Kermit the Frog?

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I can't take credit for putting that together

No, that honor goes to one of the writers of the site ohnotheydidnt
Ferd went through and actually made a scarily comprehensive side by side comparison which can be viewed HERE
Honestly, I had never given it much thought before but there is a pretty eerie resemblance there.

3 Rib Socks- Blue Strata

Photobucket
I am an avid knitter
But I am on The bulk of my work is socks and scarves because by the time I get sick of them I am done and can move on to something else. Oh I change it up, doing lots of different stitches (just stockinette would bore me to tears) and I have given away more scarves then anyone will ever hope to wear.

This is my latest pair of 3 rib socks.
Photobucket
They were worked in Red Heart Strata yarn in Surf color way. I have to say that I had been worried that the yarn would make for some scratchy socks- but they were actually very comfortable- enough that I even wore them to work.

X-Files I Want To Believe

Photobucket
I wanted to believe too!
After all it's been six years since the series ended and ten years since the first movie "Fight The Future". I wanted to believe that it wouldn't be lame or a sort of last ditch effort to cash in on the franchise. I also wanted to be tall, and much like that fantasy somethings just aren't going to happen.

I won't give any spoilers- there are enough other people doing that. I will just give my general opinion. If the story had been an hour long episode it would have been decent as a film that lasts somewhere between "Cool! X-Files" to "My God Is This Ever Going To End?" it was just dragged. If you are hoping for a lot of connections to the show, or even to the first movie, do not hold your breath. It was like they took everything I loved about the X-Files and threw it away.

Honestly, I should have taken my ticket money and gone to "Step Brothers" instead!

Iron Man Uses A Dell?

Photobucket
Iron Man is the first big movie of 2008.

Well DUH! it's not like that is something that just about everyone on the planet doesn't already know. And while I promise no spoilers will be found here I am going to echo about 900 zillion geeks world wide when I tell you it kicked ass.

I went in knowing zip about the Iron Man comic. I went because I am a sucker for any movie that features cool gadgets and explosions- and if they happen to be together in one movie then that's my kind of movie!
Guess what, not only is the many, many explosions. Enough gadgets to keep the Blogs drooling for months. But Robert Downey Jr. looks pretty fine in a suit. And if there is one thing I like more then gadgets and exsplosions it a hot guy in a good suit

I will skip the social comentary of the movie. I don't look for popcorn movies to meld with my personal political views. No what I want to ask is the deep probing question.
The question that I wonder why it has not been posed more.

With all of the great equipment Tony Stark has. With all of his skills building his own computers and machines (see the movie and you will know where I am coming from) can someone please explain to me WHY his office computer is a Dell?!!!

Yes, yes, I know the real answer is of course product placement. But are we really expected to beleive a geek of Tony Starks level would own let alone use in his personal office a Dell?

Don't get me wrong I have nothing againest Dell. I just really think they pushed things a little too far asking us to believe that Tony would use something so domestic. Next thing they are going to tell us those great suits come from Men's Wearhouse.

Nope, sorry guys. I am willing to believe that there could be a super hot, super genius who on top of being witty and charming can build a device that keeps him alive AND a huge metal suit that flies, boosts an impressive array of weapons. AND that he could speed on a traffic free L.A. freeway (in the middle of the day no less!) and not get pulled over. Yeah, I am willing to say all of that could fly. I just refuse to believe he would actually use a Dell.
